Jolie Brise (UK) has taken back the lead overall on corrected time in the race to Bermuda, pushing Tecla (Netherlands) back into second place. Kruzenshtern (Russia) remains in third place with Spirit of Bermuda in fourth. Urania (Netherlands) continues to hold onto the lead of the Class D Group on corrected time with Xsaar (Belgium) remaining in second.
On the water, Peter von Danzig (Germany) is now streaking ahead of the fleet and is some 114 miles ahead of the next vessel which is Spirit of Bermuda. Urania is closing the gap on Spirit, just some 45 miles behind, and Jolie Brise is also doing well.
Now into the second week of the translatlantic race from Tenerife to Bermuda, the fleet are about half way across the Atlantic. Winds have veered a little and are now east-south-east of about 8 knots. The approaching low appears to be weakening but all are hoping they can pick up something from it to help propel them towards Bermuda at a faster pace.
For Spirit of Bermuda they report another night of light airs and shifting breezes which is taking them further south than they’d like, and slowly with the need to gyb back and forth. Skipper Simon Colley says of his crew: “They have become very mindful of chafe in these light conditions - not only of canvas and cordage but also of crew members. It’s nice to see kindness and consideration in these moments - this crew has become very good at looking each other.”
