Spirit comes home

Spirit arrives off of Fort St. Catherine

After 7,000 miles of ocean sailing, Spirit of Bermuda arrived off of Fort St. Catherine yesterday at 9 am flying a large Bermuda flag. She was met by a small flotilla of 10-12 boats and was escorted up the North Shore. As Spirit approached Hamilton Harbour the welcome escort swelled to about 20 boats.

Crew members were clearly delighted to be home, and waved happily at friends, family and well-wishers in the welcome flotilla.

Spirit sailed a lap of the Great Sound and Murray’s Anchorage to enter Hamilton Harbour via Timlin’s Narrows, the original entrance.

After circling Hamilton Harbour and firing cannon salutes off of Albuoy’s Point and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Spirit proceeded to her home berth in Dockyard.
