The Parade of Sail was truly grand, under sunny skies and fair winds, as over 40 tall ships coordinated their departure, sailing by Dartmouth on the east side of harbor, and Halifax on the west. In past years, Halifax has been voted best port stop on the Tall Ship events, and seems a good bet to carry the honors this year as well. A beautiful city, compact restored waterfront, friendly people, and good organization - what's not to like. The Spirit of Bermuda crew distinguished themselves in sports, sportsmanship, and service, and I received many compliments from guests and organizers telling how well they represented themselves, the ship, and Bermuda. Well done!
Following departure, the wind was fair from the west, letting us put some miles between us and Nova Scotia, but a large hi pressure system to the east of us foretold light winds on the nose, and the need to add the iron stays'l belowdecks to the canvas aloft if we are to make Bermuda in time for the big events of next week, and the Sea Venture gala. Spirits are high, and life is good.
best regards to all,
