Spirit of Bermuda and Russian tall ship, the Kruzenshtern off of south shoreThe Spirit of Bermuda was met today during one of its Middle School Learning Expeditions by Russian tall ship, the Kruzenshtern. The four masted barque beauty, took a detour to Bermuda during its journey home to Russia, after visiting Cuba, to sail alongside Spirit and her crew of Dellwood and Whitney Institute Middle School girls. Measuring a whopping 376ft in length (more than three times the length of Spirit) and 168.3ft in height, the Kruzenshtern is the second largest tall ship in the world and is widely regarded as one of the jewels of the Russian sailing fleet.
The majestic encounter lasted for almost an hour along the south shore and was a truly impressive sight for all to see. Both the Professional and student crew aboard Spirit, were extremely honored and excited to sail alongside the Kruzenshtern, in an event which instilled an enormous amount of pride and sense of international camaraderie for all involved. The Bermuda Sloop Foundation wishes the Kruzenshtern and it’s 257 crew, a safe and pleasant onward journey to Russia.
